You remind me of a jazz song

you remind me of a jazz song

something sweet like Coltrane or Davis or Wes Montgomery

a ballad that floats across the stage so airily and dances between my ears and when

you open your mouth the words come out so smoothly like chords coming out of the top

of a newly tuned Steinway I could never get tired of you

you go to the IV

then to the ii and the V

you tell me stories I could listen to for hours

and you come back to the I

so nice to come home to

I hear you in the plucking of the bass

Between each note in that walking bass line

that smooth, strong sound I could get lost in

so gentle

like the ting of a cymbal

you keep me in time

one,

two,

three,

four

over and over again

yet no line is the same with you

so unique

I like you more than that girl from ipanema

and there will never be another you

So let me hear your song

whether it’s the sound of a thousand violins

or it might be the sound of your hello

that music I hear

makes me Misty

whenever you’re near

kenny clay
