Goodbye, Buffalo
She was Sandy,
With honey graham crackers
And brown syrup fizzy soda
She popped her lip
And blew smoke from her nose like a bull
She was angry in stature
But lilac at heart
I remember the hum of the fridge
As she sprinkled sugar over my rice pops
And rubbed my back with her whispering cacao fingers
Not so rarely
The door would open across our home
And a beaming smile would emerge
Met with the incandescent embrace of Sandy
And her smokey hair
Remain in heart
But of body it is never again
When I will sit at her feet
Hiding a Jack
And smiling sweetly at the orange glow of Sandy
Behind her smokey haze
